When I booked my Kars trip that involved a travel on the "Doğu Ekspresi" (East Express) in December, I did not perceive what I was getting into. It was the fantastic opportunity I had been waiting for: I had long wanted to travel on the Trans-Siberian Railway, here was a adj train journey on terrain that even the Tough Guide described as "Turkey's version of Siberia."
