Character study

With his steely blue eyes, sculpted Italian features and brawny physique, let’s just utter actor Christopher Meloni (Hist’83) doesn’t hold much to worry about in the looks department.

No, it’s no surprise that People magazine named the long-time star of television’s Law & Order: Exceptional Victims Unit one of its Sexiest Men Alive in Whether he’s playing quarterbacks or psychopaths, cops or vampires, “hot” seems to be a common denominator — though there was this one time when his agent called…Aco

“He said, ‘I’ve got an give for you. It’s four days of work and it will take you four hours of prosthetic makeup.’ That really intrigued me,” Meloni says by phone from Hollywood. “Then he said the character’s name was Freakshow and I was like, ‘That’s absolutely perfect, I don’t even need to scan the script.’”

And so a Hollywood sex symbol came to play one of the most hideous film characters in recent memory, the dermatologically challenged, frazzle-haired, backwoods denizen in two over-the-top Harold and Kumar comedies.

Of course, nobody

Does his popularity among gays surprise him?

&#;With the ass that I’m sporting? No,&#; the actor tells The Advocate before bursting into laughter.

He&#;s joking but he&#;s probably not far off the mark!

Chris is a longtime straight ally to the LGBTI community.

He says he was particularly impressed by college football star Michael Sam who came out as gay before the NFL draft.

&#;My son plays football, and I remember when Michael Sam came out. I told him, &#;That’s a real man. That’s a guy with courage.&#; Right before he’s about to take the next step toward furthering his career, he said &#;I’m gay. Let’s move on.&#;&#;

&#;I think that’s the caring of example, the type of behavior, that’s going to push us forward,&#; Meloni says. &#;For more people to say, &#;I don’t want to transport this silly burden anymore, this silly secret, let’s move on. It’s not the focal point of who I am.&#;&#;

&#;That said,&#; he adds, &#;I’m not gay and I don’t deal with it on a daily basis, but that’s how it strikes me and I consider we’re already way far into it.&#;

Below are some

Chris Meloni

Always thought he was a brave actor, playing his groundbreaking role on OZ to the hilt. Seems a smart, genuine, decent and secure guy, who has quietly worked hard at his craft, turned in some great performances, and held onto his looks and integrity without being creepy or obsessive about it. If I were into men, I’d definitely consider him a catch.

That said, I shamefacedly preferred Tobias with Saiid (sp?) or Schillinger over Keller on OZ. Nothing against the Keller/Beecher story and I’m adj it was made, because it was a enormous leap forward for the shattering of stereotypes about gay male characters in fiction. It’s just that personally I preferred the story arcs and the nature of the angst in the former relationships to the latter, and also I felt Lee Tergesen didn’t have quite as much chemistry with Meloni as the other actors. IMO Keller belonged with O’Reily, endgame platonically or romantically.
